They create a welcoming, friendly environment, where learning tango makes fun. The way they teach helps us to relax, find connection with each other and socialize, while learning to be present feel our body and enjoy the harmony of tango.

If the purpose is escaping from the world by dancing, socializing, chilling on Sunday, discovering new dimension of the dance, of myself and the connection with others; bringing out unknown issues and new depths with your partner in the relationship, having a cup of coffee surrounded by family vibes and tango music: a strong recommendation is to come by. 😊

I’m at the beginning of discovering the things listed above but enjoying the process.. 😏

Absolutely awesome place with brilliant vibe and such a friendly spirit. I was just passing through the city so I only got to go for two classes and one milonga but still György and Emilia took me in like their own. The classes are well balanced for any skill level and all the tangueras and tangueros are truly nice.

Hello Tango just became my go-to place any time I will visit the city again.

If you're looking for classes or want to discover the Budapest tango scene swing (pun intended) by György's and Emilia's classes.

Thanks again guys! 🙂

From the first lesson I had very good impression about this place. Our teachers are attentive, involved and supportive! At the same time both of them are professionals whose dance astonishes.
Here you never feel yourself alone with your concerns and always can ask all your questions. I am attending it for already a year and still happy that I have found it!

It was a really great experience. We went with our class (from Belgium) to this tango studio. The tango class definitely took me out of my comfort, because normally I wouldn’t do something like that. I’m glad we got the opportunity to be teached by such great teachers, they were very professional with a touch of humor. We first started doing small exercises to learn what’s important in tango, so they could prepare us a little to dance. I’m really glad I could experience this, thank you so much!!

If you want to learn Argentine tango in Budapest from really great teachers, who are kind, funny and professional, Gyuri and Kata are who you are looking for! I really enjoyed learning with them and hope to continue soon. They focus on teaching the basics very thoroughly at the start (leading and following) and later too: I particularly enjoyed that we talked about and practiced movement and communication in movement every lesson, not just learning “fancy showy steps”. We learned about milonga etiquette and the fundamentals of social dancing. We dance to a mix of authentic 20th century recordings of the greats of tango music, modern tango and neotango music. There are also közösségépítő events sometimes like movie night or going to milonga together which helps to build friendships and you can get to know fellow dancers better.

Teaching tango is not easy, as learning feelings and translating them into the language of the body is also challenging. I give back everything I have seen so that our students can it dance it beautifully.

EMILIA KUMPULAINEN

Tango gives me what the professional ballet world couldn’t: a true sense of connection, community and lifestyle. Whether you crave disconnection, playtime, sensuality, or ambition, come learn tango.

GYÖRGY HORVÁTH

For me, tango is beauty itself. And not only that, but harmony, unity, expression. When I enter a dance room,  time slows down. That’s why I dance and why I want to share it with others.

FAQ

What types of Argentine Tango courses does Hello Tango offer?

Hello Tango offers Argentine tango courses for every level — from complete beginners to intermediate and advanced dancers — in both Budapest and Debrecen. Alongside our regular weekly group classes, we also offer private lessons, themed workshops, and technique-focused sessions. All classes are bilingual (English & Hungarian), so international students and expats feel at home from day one. Our focus isn't only steps: we build a friendly, youthful community where connection matters as much as technique.

I've never danced before. Can I still join?

Absolutely — most of our students start as complete beginners with zero dance experience. Our beginner courses are built from the ground up for total newcomers, and you don't need a partner or any prior background. You'll learn the fundamentals of Argentine tango step by step, in a relaxed, supportive group where making mistakes is simply part of the fun.

When and where are the classes?

We hold regular weekly Argentine tango classes in Budapest, and we also organize workshops and events in Debrecen. Because days, times and venues can change each season, we keep the always-current timetable in one place — the schedule table on hellotango.hu. Not sure which class fits your level? Message us and we'll point you to the right one.

How much do the classes cost?

We keep pricing simple with class passes that lower the per-class price the more you commit. To avoid any out-of-date numbers, all current prices and pass options live in one place — the price table on hellotango.hu. There's no long-term contract — you buy a pass and dance.

Are private lessons available?

Yes — we offer private Argentine tango lessons in both Budapest and Debrecen. Private lessons are tailored to your personal goals, whether you want to accelerate as a beginner, polish specific figures, prepare for your first milonga, or work on musicality and connection. They're the fastest way to progress, and you can book them alongside group classes or on their own.

Do I need a partner to attend classes?

Not at all — many of our students come on their own. In class we rotate partners (partner switching is always optional), so everyone gets plenty of practice and you get to meet the whole group. Coming solo is actually one of the best ways to become part of the community.

What kind of social events do you organize?

Beyond classes, we regularly host milongas — social tango nights where you dance socially to tango music — plus workshops and relaxed community events like dinner parties and picnics, in both Budapest and Debrecen. These are the heart of Hello Tango: it's where you put class into practice, make friends, and experience tango as a living social scene rather than just a lesson.

How can I sign up?

You can register through the sign-up form at the top of our website, hellotango.hu. Just pick the course that matches your level, fill in your details, and you're in. If you have questions before signing up, reach out and we'll help you choose.

What age group are the classes for?

Our classes are primarily aimed at young adults, and we have a strong community of dancers in their twenties and thirties — but everyone is genuinely welcome, whatever your age. The only real requirements are an open mind and a willingness to learn. Younger dancers are especially welcome, and we run dedicated community programs for them too.

What should I wear to class?

Wear something comfortable you can move in, and bring smooth-soled shoes so you can pivot easily on the floor. If you don't have tango shoes yet, don't worry — clean-soled sneakers are totally fine for your first lessons. Leather or suede soles work best; avoid thick rubber soles that grip the floor.

What language are the classes taught in?

All of our classes are bilingual — taught in both English and Hungarian. That means international students, expats and locals learn side by side, and you'll never feel lost because of the language. Tango itself is a non-verbal language, but our instructions make sure everyone follows along easily.

How long is a class, and how are the courses structured?

A typical group class runs about 60 minutes and follows a progressive curriculum, so each week builds on the last. Beginners start with a course block covering the fundamentals — walking, the embrace, and basic musicality — before moving on to intermediate figures. You join at the start of a new beginner cycle; the next start date is listed in the schedule table on hellotango.hu.

What is a milonga?

A milonga is a social tango event — the place where dancers come together to dance Argentine tango socially, to a mix of classic and modern tango music. It's not a class or a performance: it's the real thing, a relaxed evening of dancing, meeting people and enjoying the music. Hello Tango hosts regular milongas in Budapest, open to dancers of all levels.

Where in Budapest are the classes held?

Our regular classes take place at a central, easy-to-reach venue in Budapest, convenient by public transport. Because we sometimes use different locations depending on the season, the exact address for each course is listed with the schedule table on hellotango.hu.

Do I need to book in advance, or can I just show up?

We recommend signing up in advance through hellotango.hu so we can reserve your spot and keep a good balance of leaders and followers in each class — spaces can fill up, especially for beginner courses. That said, if you're curious, get in touch and we'll let you know whether you can drop in to an upcoming class.

What makes Hello Tango different from other tango schools?

Hello Tango is a community and a movement, not just a dance school. We believe Argentine tango is one of the best antidotes to a digitally isolated world — a way to reconnect with yourself and with real people. That's why we put belonging and genuine human connection above rigid perfectionism: we're warm, youthful and welcoming, with no elitism or exclusivity. You come to learn to dance, and you stay for the people.
