The BBC’s radio program, The Forum, which deals with cultural, artistic, and historical topics (and is a very good show), focused on the history and development of tango on July 9th. In the roughly 40-minute conversation, a musicologist, dance historian, and cultural anthropologist discuss with the host not only the emergence of tango as a music and dance style but also as a cultural phenomenon spanning continents, to which many nations have contributed.

A short, easily digestible introduction with some great little stories – a perfect start to get acquainted with the background of this complex and multifaceted phenomenon we call tango.

You can listen to the show here, and it is also available for download in mp3 format. The second part of the conversation starts at 26:30.

The Forum – Up close with tango
